The latest GT3 RS is more than a GT3 on steroids.
The 2023 Porsche 911 GT3 RS isn't massively more powerful than the GT3—it gains only 16 horsepower, for a total of 518—but its aerodynamic tricks beggar belief. The RS gets a driver-actuated drag-reduction system, and it needs it, generating as much as 1896 pounds of downforce. Still, the RS loses some top-end speed compared to the GT3, with top speed falling from 199 mph to 184 mph. Our prediction: Nobody will care.
With 518 hp, the GT3 RS won’t keep up with a 911 Turbo on the straights. But this car is built to dominate the corners.
Active aerodynamics include a drag reduction system that can change the downforce from 661 pounds to 1896 pounds in 0.35 second.
Do something goofy—like go wide-open throttle at more than 5500 rpm while pulling more than 0.90 g—and the car will automatically go into ground-effects mode, even deploying the air brake.
We drove the GT3 RS at Britain's Silverstone Circuit, where it rained. Rain in England? Quite a surprise, but the RS acquitted itself fine.
The forward trunk is gone, replaced by a canted radiator and aero ductwork.
One place the GT3 beats the GT3 RS: top speed, at 199 mph to 184 mph.
The suspension is adjustable for both compression and rebound.
Porsche claims the GT3 RS weighs in at 3197 pounds, only 33 pounds more than the GT3.
Unlike the regular GT3, which can be had with a manual, the 2023 Porsche 911 GT3 RS comes exclusively with a seven-speed PDK gearbox.
Adding to the race-car ambiance: a roll cage and no back seats.
Base price: $225,250, although that’s irrelevant because this year’s production is already sold out.
