A dual-clutch automatic transmission is one of several new options available with the Porsche 911 GT3's Touring package.
With a smaller, active rear spoiler in place of a coffee-table-size rear wing, the Porsche 911 GT3 Touring is the more understated GT3. Yet the previous version had little else to distinguish itself from regular GT3 models. Porsche has changed that for the 2022 model year, adding not only the option of a dual-clutch automatic transmission to the 992-generation Touring, but a host of other tweaks specifically aimed at making this hardcore 911 look a bit more special.
As before, the Touring package is a no-cost option on the standard $163,750 911 GT3.
In addition to bringing a subtler active rear spoiler, the latest Touring also features silver window surrounds and a body-color lower front fascia in place of the regular GT3's black exterior trim.
The same 502-hp 4.0-liter flat-six in other GT3s also motivates the Touring.
Although our example didn't feature the most aggressive summer tires available on the GT3, its unequal-length control-arm front suspension and Goodyear Eagle F1 SuperSport R tires still helped it pull a stout 1.10 g's of grip on the skidpad.
At 3334 pounds, our test car weighed a mere 31 pound more than the previous Touring model.
Our example's custom Iris Blue paint-to-sample exterior hue alone cost an additional $12,830.
A lovely six-speed manual transmission is standard on the Touring, but a newly added seven-speed PDK dual-clutch automatic is now a no-cost option.
Our PDK-equipped test car shot to 60 mph in 2.8 seconds, beating the previous manual-only GT3 Touring by more than a half-second.
A chainmail-like texture on the dash and door panels is an exclusive touch for Touring models, which also can now be equipped with one of several two-tone leather interior options not available on other GT3s.
The chunky mechanical shift lever in PDK-equipped GT3s can be used to manually select gears. Passersby might mistake it for a manual shifter.
