A manual transmission finally comes to the six-cylinder Toyota Supra for the 2023 model year.
Enthusiasts have begged for a manual transmission in the latest Supra since day one. While Toyota took a bit to answer those pleas, the wait is over. The manual Supra is here, and it is a wonderful thing to drive.
The 2023 Supra's six-speed manual transmission is a no-cost option exclusive to 3.0 and 3.0 Premium six-cylinder models. Shoppers of 2.0 models with the base 255-hp turbo four are out of luck.
The new model year also brings updates to the traction- and stability-control systems in 3.0 models, plus revised suspension and steering tuning.
The tight, slick action of the ZF-sourced six-speed's shifter is a boon to the Supra driver's enjoyment.
Though the Supra is far more fun with the manual, we do expect this version to be a few tenths of a second slower to 60 mph.
The manual Supra's pedal box is on the tight side, but its three closely spaced pedals make for easy heel-and-toe downshifting.
The Supra's automatic rev-matching function is active by default, but it can be deactivated when configuring the car's Individual mode in the infotainment system.
Toyota had to relocate the Supra's infotainment control knob to the far right of the center console to make room for the manual shifter, which sits precariously close to dash's center stack.
Pricing for the stick-shift Supra starts at $53,595.
A long, easily modulated clutch pedal and a shorter final-drive ratio (3.46:1 versus the eight-speed automatic's 3.15:1) make for smooth getaways in the manual Supra.
