A preview of the ultra-Urus reveals that engine and suspension tweaks significantly change the big Lambo's character.
The Urus Performante, seen here in prototype form, is a new ultra-high-performance variant set to go on sale by the end of the year.
The Urus Performante has more power than the standard Urus. Its twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 produces 657 horsepower, a 16-hp increase. Torque is unchanged at 627 pound-feet.
Lamborghini has also trimmed a claimed 104 pounds of weight.
The Performante gets a carbon-fiber hood, reduced sound-deadening, and a steel-spring suspension in place of air springs.
Visual changes to the Urus Performante include redesigned front and rear fascias, along with a new fixed spoiler above the liftgate.
The standard wheels are 22 inches, with 23s available as an option.
Interior changes include specific seats and trim.
Lamborghini's stated zero-to-62-mph time is 0.3 second quicker than the standard Urus, which would bring its sprint to 60 mph in the high-two-second range. The time from zero to 124 mph is given as 11.5 seconds, beating the base Urus by 1.3 seconds.
The Performante also gets a new center differential that can direct more torque to the rear axle
The Performante's drive mode settings include a new Rally mode that is essentially a drift function for low-grip surfaces.
The Lamborghini Urus Performante goes on sale by the end of 2022 at a starting price of $264,671, or roughly $35,000 more than a base Urus.
