Like with its R1T pickup, startup automaker Rivian's electric SUV model impresses on- and off-road. But be prepared to pay up and wait awhile.
We've just driven the 2022 Rivian R1S, which is an SUV version of the electric R1T pickup truck. There are some differences between the two vehicles, but they share platforms, powertrains, styling, and battery packs and feel similar from behind the wheel.
The R1S is an electric luxury SUV from startup automaker Rivian.
It's closely related to the R1T pickup, although it's shorter overall.
At 200.8 inches long, the R1S is a similar size as other mid-size three-row SUVs.
The R1S is EPA rated at 316 miles of range on a full charge.
Twenty-one-inch wheels and tires are standard, with 20-inch wheels and taller off-road tires optional.
If you want to order an R1S now, be prepared to wait, as the current estimate is that deliveries for new orders won't start until late 2023.
Other battery-pack options and a less powerful (and less costly) dual-motor powertrain are on the way but have been delayed.
