The full-size Ford Expedition gains a meaningful mid-cycle update for the 2022 model year.
To fend off challenges from a raft of new and redesigned competitors, Ford has updated the 2022 Expedition SUV with styling tweaks, additional power and technology, and a new off-road-oriented Timberline trim level.
The 2022 Ford Expedition offers a choice of three variants of its familiar twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V-6 with 380, 400, and 440 horsepower.
All Expedition models feature a 10-speed automatic transmission.
The most powerful engine setup is reserved for higher-end models, including the new-for-2022 Timberline and Expedition Limited with the Stealth Performance package.
The Timberline's 440-hp engine propelled it to 60 mph in 5.1 seconds, a significant gain over the 5.7-second 60-mph run we recorded in a 400-hp 2018 Expedition Platinum model.
The Timberline features suspension upgrades, additional ground clearance, 33-inch all-terrain tires, skid plates, and more.
The Stealth Performance package is designed to improve the Expedition's on-road performance, but in practice it makes only a marginal difference in handling behavior.
A 12.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system is standard on the Expedition; a larger 15.5-inch unit is available and pairs with a 12.4-inch digital gauge cluster.
Also new for 2022 is the addition of Ford's hands-free driver-assist system, BlueCruise, though it’s limited to the top-of-the-line Platinum model.
Base prices for the 2022 Expedition range from $54,200 for a rear-wheel-drive XL model to $86,405 for an extended-wheelbase Platinum with four-wheel drive.
