It's more powerful than the rear-drive EVO, more livable than the STO.
The Lamborghini Huracán Tecnica puts the 631-hp V-10 engine from the track-special STO into what promises to be a more street-friendly—although still rear-wheel-drive—package. As such, it just may be the most well-rounded version of Lamborghini's supercar.
The Huracán Tecnica will sit between the rear-wheel-drive EVO and the STO in the model hierarchy and is designed for track-day thrills as well as street usability.
The Tecnica uses the STO's 631-hp version of Lamborghini's long-serving 5.2-liter naturally aspirated V-10 engine. Power is sent exclusively to the rear wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox.
Our prototype drive took place at the vast Nardò proving ground in southern Italy, on the 3.9-mile handling course.
Lamborghini's LDVI dynamic controller manages the traction control, rear differential, and adaptive suspension. It also creates significantly different handling characteristics in each of the three driving modes.
The Sport dynamic mode allows lots of rear-end slip before intervention; it feels close to what other automakers sometimes describe as Drift mode. The more aggressive Corsa setting allows less slip to create the best lap times.
Carbon-ceramic brakes will be standard on all versions of the Tecnica, and buyers will be able to choose optional track-biased Bridgestone Potenza Race tires.
The aerodynamic changes deliver a total of around 400 pounds of downforce, more than the Huracán EVO but less than half the STO's huge peak.
Visual changes include larger apertures in the front and rear bumpers, a new separate rear wing, and a carbon-fiber engine cover in place of the rear glass screen on lesser Huracáns.
We don't have any word on price yet, but the car will be on sale later this year.
Company insiders say the Tecnica is the second-to-last Huracán derivative, with the final one rumored to be a version of the Sterrato off-road concept.
