The BMW i4 is the brand's new all-electric 4-series Gran Coupe. It's available as the single-motor i4 eDrive40 or the dual-motor i4 M50 tested here.
The i4 M50 is BMW's first electric vehicle to wear an M badge.
As a Gran Coupe, the i4 has both four doors and a practical hatchback.
The i4's rear hatchback is not immediately evident at first glance.
The i4's fascia features dual oversized nostrils, just like the internal-combustion-driven 4-series—and so many other BMWs.
Whereas the base car has a single motor driving the rear wheels, the M50 has front and rear motors powering all four wheels.
Combined output is 536 horsepower and 586 pound-feet of torque.
In our tests, the i4 M50 reached 60 mph in 3.3 seconds and blasted through the quarter-mile in 11.7 seconds at 120 mph.
With its instant torque, the i4 M50's passing performance is even more impressive, zipping from 30 to 50 mph in 1.5 seconds and from 50 to 70 in 2.0 seconds flat.
As expected in an EV, the i4 M50 has a screen-tastic interior.
The i4 M50's base price is $66,895 (before tax incentives), while the base i4 is $56,395. Both have the same 81.5-kWh battery.
