OpenFlash Performance modifies the latest Toyota Supra with more power and sharper handling yet preserves its factory civility.
Tuner cars are traditionally fickle beasts, providing impressive performance at the expense of drivability. OpenFlash Performance wanted something different with its 2021 Toyota Supra 3.0 project car, which has been fortified with an additional 118 horsepower and honed with sharper reflexes yet maintains much of the daily-driver compliance that it comes with from the factory.
Shiv Pathak's company, OpenFlash Performance, specializes in ECU tunes for performance cars, from Miatas to Ferraris.
OpenFlash makes no physical engine changes to the Supra's optional 3.0-liter inline-six. The 118-hp bump all comes from the ECU with an OpenFlash Stage 1 reflash.
The OpenFlash Supra's 18-inch wheels not only look good, they allow a taller sidewall to soak up bumps and offer compliance around corners. Yokohama Advan A052 tires sized 275/40-18 wrap around Apex EC-7R forged wheels finished in satin bronze.
The stock 2021 Supra 3.0 runs a 12.1-second quarter-mile. The OpenFlash Performance car does it in 11.6 seconds, with a 60-mph time of just 3.3 seconds.
Small dive planes grace the OpenFlash Supra's nose.
The Verus Engineering rear diffuser is the most dramatic visible change to the exterior of the car.
Replacing the stock suspension links and bushings with SPL adjustable units took the last hint of sloppiness out of the Supra's steering.
The dampers, springs, and anti-roll bars are all OEM pieces. Only bushings and control arms were swapped out in the front.
We love the stock Supra for its exhaust grumble and willingness in corners. We love Pathak's version even more.
