Until now, the Jeep Compass's two biggest flaws have been its cheap-looking interior and subpar powertrain. Jeep addresses the first with a substantial makeover that includes a more cohesive layout and upscale appointments, which make the Compass kinda deluxe.
The 2022 Jeep Compass receives subtle exterior changes that include new LED headlights and taillights, as well as a revised front fascia.
The Compass Limited with the High Altitude package, like the one we drove, comes with 19-inch wheels, body-color exterior molding, and enhanced lighting elements.
The 2022 Compass Limited comes standard with all-wheel drive and starts at $33,790. Adding the High Altitude package costs an extra $2595.
The 2022 Compass is powered by a naturally aspirated 2.4-liter four-cylinder that now makes 177 horsepower and 172 pound-feet of torque, which are both down slightly from the previous model year.
Compass models with all-wheel drive are solely offered with a nine-speed automatic transmission, while front-wheel-drive versions have a six-speed automatic.
We didn't take the 2022 Compass to the track, but its powertrain is almost identical to a 2018 model we tested, which needed a prolonged 9.3 seconds to reach 60 mph.
Despite its coarse-sounding engine and poky acceleration, the 2022 Compass has composed handling and a civilized ride—except on rough roads.
Inside, the 2022 Compass has a new dashboard that's more along the lines of the attractive design found in the freshly redesigned Jeep Grand Cherokee.
Along with a new look and nicer materials, the Compass's cabin now has a high-mounted touchscreen that's as large as 10.1 inches and features wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
