The new-for-2022 Audi A3 is conservatively styled, perhaps more so than any other member of the Audi family.
The S3 version has subtle visual enhancements, including a different grille texture, larger and wider wheels, and a rear spoiler.
Both cars are just over an inch longer than before and nearly an inch wider.
In the U.S., the A3 and S3 will come exclusively as sedans. The sportback body style will not be sold here.
A 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine powers both cars. In the A3, it makes 201 horsepower, while the S3 version is good for 306 ponies.
Front-wheel drive is standard on the A3 with all-wheel drive a $2000 option. All-wheel drive is standard on the S3.
Fuel economy improves for all models, with the front-drive A3 now at 32 mpg (EPA combined), the A3 Quattro at 31 mpg, and the S3 returning 27 mpg.
The new interior is more dramatically designed than the exterior.
A digital instrument cluster is standard as is a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system.
Prices start at $34,945 for the A3 and $45,945 for the S3.
