The Porsche Macan compact crossover receives a host of cosmetic and mechanical updates for the 2022 model year.
We've spent almost all our time with the Porsche Macan in sportier versions powered by a twin-turbo V-6 engine, mainly because they're the most exciting on the road. Even with the modest power of the updated base four-cylinder model, this remains one of the most satisfying small SUVs available to drive today.
2022 Porsche Macan
While the overall shape of the updated 2022 Macan remains instantly recognizable, its front and rear bumpers have been redesigned for a sharper appearance.
All new Macans come with larger wheels. The base version's standard wheels now span 19 inches, with 20- and 21-inchers available.
Inside the Macan are new steering-wheel options and a redesigned center console with touch-sensitive controls.
The base model's turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder now produces 261 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque, increases of 13 and 22, respectively.
As with all Porsches, the Macan's options sheet is long. The example we drove costs nearly $30,000 more than its $56,250 base price.
The latest Macan's rear seats remain tight for adults but comfortable for children.
Porsche's updated infotainment system is easy enough to use but suffers from a relatively small 10.9-inch touchscreen.
With the help of its available launch-control programming for the standard seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, we estimate the base four-cylinder Macan should reach 60 mph in 5.5 seconds.
Adjustable ride height and handling modes make the Macan's optional air springs and adaptive dampers a worthwhile add-on.
