Bentley's first hybrid model is the new 443-hp plug-in Bentayga SUV.
Bentley has pledged to go fully electric by 2030, but its first step toward an electrified future will be with plug-in hybrids. The 2021 Bentayga hybrid SUV, which combines a turbocharged V-6 gas engine with an electric motor and a 13.0-kWh battery pack, is the British luxury brand's initial step in the direction.
The Bentayga hybrid is Bentley's first electrified vehicle, although it will be followed by a 536-hp Flying Spur hybrid sedan later this year.
Powering the Bentayga hybrid is a 335-hp turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 and a 126-hp electric motor positioned between the engine and the eight-speed automatic transmission. Combined output is 443 horsepower.
The Bentayga hybrid's 13.0-kWh battery pack weighs 463 pounds and is positioned beneath the cargo area.
The Bentayga hybrid cannot fully replenish its battery while driving. It has to be plugged in to be topped up, which can take as little as 2.5 hours with the 7.2-kW onboard charger.
The EPA estimates the Bentayga hybrid at 18 miles of electric range and 46 MPGe combined.
We estimate the Bentayga hybrid will get to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds.
With its big battery and associated hardware, the hybrid should be by far the heaviest Bentayga model at an estimated 6000 pounds.
Ride quality is impressively plush on the Bentayga's standard air springs and adaptive dampers, but the hybrid can't be ordered with the 48-volt active anti-roll bars that are available on other versions.
