VW's new plug-in hybrid GTE looks like a GTI and offers some economical benefits. It just doesn't drive as well as our favorite hot hatch.

A new plug-in hybrid GTE joins the GTI and diesel-powered GTD in VW's global eighth-generation Golf lineup. While the GTE does bring some benefits, including the ability to cover around 40 miles on electric power, it's not as good to drive as its gas-burning sibling. Don't expect to see it in the United States.
