Morgan's new Plus Four may channel its old-timey past, but it does feature significant technological updates versus its ancient Plus 4 predecessor, including a bonded-aluminum chassis and a control-arm suspension front and rear.
The Plus Four ditches the outgoing Plus 4's naturally aspirated Ford-sourced four-cylinder for a turbocharged 2.0-liter four from BMW. Output jumps from 154 horsepower to 255.
The Plus Four comes standard with a six-speed manual transmission, but an eight-speed automatic also is available.
The Plus Four continues to employ Morgan's quaint approach to bodywork with aluminum panels mounted to a wooden frame made of ash timber.
Morgan claims the Plus Four will reach 62 mph in 5.2 seconds with the manual gearbox and 4.8 seconds with the automatic.
The Plus Four's natural pace is a gentle one, with its low windshield and low-cut doors making faster progress feel uncomfortably breezy.
The Plus Four rolls on 15-inch aluminum wheels shod with 205/60R-15 Avon ZV7 summer tires.
The claimed "dry" curb weight for the Plus Four is a svelte 2233 pounds.
Morgan hopes that the new Plus Four and its brawnier Plus Six model will help it sell up to 300 cars a year in the U.S. once they can officially be imported as replicas.
