The twin-turbo V-8 is derived from the F8 Tributo. In the SF90, the engine receives redesigned cylinder heads, a larger bore that increases displacement to 4.0 liters, new turbochargers, and more forceful direct injection to produce 770 horsepower.
An all-new eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission snaps off lightning-quick shifts.
There are three electric motors. The two at the front each generate 133 horsepower and 63 pound-feet of torque. Sandwiched between the V-8 and the gear box is another motor that makes 206 hp and 196 pound-feet of torque. The combined horsepower rating is a staggering 986.
There's no reverse gear. The backing-up duties are handled by the electric motors.
By Ferrari’s account, the SF90 can travel up to 15 miles on electric power provided by the 7.9-kWh battery. Top speed in EV mode is 84 mph.
Carbon ceramic rotors are standard, measuring 15.7 inches up front and 14.2 inches in the rear.
Ferrari claims the SF90 will reach 62 mph in 2.5 seconds and 124 mph in 6.7 seconds. We think that's conservative.
The SF90 makes 860 pounds of downforce at 155 mph.
Ferrari claims top speed is 211 mph.
