Starting at $56,995, the 2020 BMW M340i xDrive looks like a regular 3-series to the untrained eye, but the M in front of the 3 means it gets the same hardware as the rear-drive model, including the M Sport brakes and a limited-slip rear differential. Read the full story here.
Like the rear-drive M340i, it's powered by a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six that makes 382 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque.
According to BMW, the all-wheel-drive M340i should hit 60 mph in 0.3 second less than the rear-drive model, such as our long-term M340i that hit the mark in 3.8 seconds.
The M340i xDrive defaults to rear-drive operation, only sending power to the front axle when traction is limited.

If it weren't for the badge on the trunk, it would be hard to tell the two apart. The M340i xDrive is 0.3 inch taller.
The all-wheel-drive model costs $2000 more than the regular M340i.

Sadly, a manual gearbox still isn't a thing. In its place is a flawlessly calibrated eight-speed automatic.
During our 75-mph highway fuel-economy test, the M340i xDrive averaged 33 mpg. That's three better than what the EPA suggests.
