Genesis's updated big sedan goes all in on confident extroversion.
The 2020 Genesis G90 got a mid-cycle refresh that was more than the usual minor styling tweaks. The roof and the doors are the only carryover sheetmetal. That grille looks shocking now, but you'll get used to it. Especially when you start seeing it on the GV80, Genesis's new SUV.
The G90's intricate wheels quell tire noise using a clever two-piece construction. The face is friction-welded to the ring, creating a resonance chamber between the two parts. Holes in that chamber empty into the tire volume, helping to cancel noise.
The 12.3-inch infotainment screen is now a touchscreen, and maps and software can be updated over the air.
Rear seat passengers have it good. The right rear seat includes controls to move the front passenger seat. In-car power struggle, commence.
New driver-assist features include lane centering and a system that detects objects, such as a bicycle, approaching an opening door.
The standard 365-hp twin-turbo 3.3-liter V-6 gives up 55 horsepower to the optional 5.0-liter V-8, but its torque (and our zero-to-60-mph times) are almost identical. The V-6 also earns a better EPA rating and costs $3500 less.
The G90's chassis is biased toward a posh ride. Stability control can't be fully deactivated. If you want a sport sedan, look elsewhere.
The G90's interior materials are very nice, but the cabin lacks the toys of its latest luxury competitors. The interior refresh wasn't nearly as drastic as the exterior restyling.
With a base price of $73,195, the G90 3.3T Premium is a good full-size luxury sedan value.
Our skidpad and acceleration test results tell the tale of the G90's demeanor. It can hustle in a straight line but doesn't love corners. A 0.86-g grip figure around the skidpad is middling, but its 5.0-second run to 60 mph is a respectable effort.
