It may not be any quicker than before, but the top-level 2020 Macan is more compelling than ever with its new twin-turbo V-6.
The 2020 Porsche Macan Turbo is small even for a compact crossover yet drives great and features a new twin-turbo V-6. It remains excellent.
The 2020 Macan Turbo sports a new twin-turbo 2.9-liter V-6 that develops 434 horsepower and 405 lb-ft of torque. That's 6 ponies and 37 lb-ft of torque less than the previous model's twin-turbo 3.0-liter V-6 when equipped with the optional Performance package.
All-wheel drive continues to be standard on the Macan Turbo, as does Porsche's excellent seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
At the test track, the 2020 Macan Turbo shot to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds and covered the quarter-mile in 12.2 seconds at 112 mph.
While the new Macan Turbo's acceleration falls short in all measurements than the previous Turbo with the Performance pack and both the 503-hp BMW X3 M and the equally powerful Mercedes-AMG GLC63 S coupe sprint to 60 mph a smidge quicker and return quarter-mile times that start with 11s.
Our Macan Turbo test car also orbited the skidpad with 0.93 g of lateral grip and stopped from 70 mph in 156 feet. Those are solid, albeit not the best, figures for a compact performance SUV and similar to what we recorded for the previous model.
The Macan Turbo's ride and handling benefit from its long 110.5-inch wheelbase relative to its 185.0-inch overall length.
Pricing for the 2020 Macan Turbo starts at $84,950, which is $12,300 more than the previous model cost when fitted with its optional Performance package. Our example stickered for $94,120.
Highlighting the latest Macan's interior updates is Porsche's 10.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system.
The Macan's rear-seat space remains particularly tight even by compact SUV standards.
