In these new GTS 4.0 models, the turbocharged flat-four is replaced by a 394-hp naturally aspirated flat-six that brings back some of that old Porsche magic.
The new GTS offers a welcome return of the naturally aspirated flat-six engine to the regular Cayman range, replacing the 2.5-liter turbo unit of the last GTS. Read the full story here.
The 394-hp flat-six is effectively a modestly detuned version of the engine in the Cayman GT4, and is based on the same architecture as the 3.0-liter turbocharged flat-six in the 911.
Standard equipment includes PASM adaptive dampers, lowered sport suspension, a limited-slip differential, and active torque vectoring. A six-speed manual gearbox is standard on the GTS, but Porsche says a twin-clutch PDK will be offered later. You know which one we’d choose.
Brakes are larger than those on lesser versions of the Cayman, with rotors 13.8 inches in diameter at the front and 13.0 inches at the rear. Porsche’s PCCB ceramic brakes are also an option.
Beyond badging there are only subtle visual distinctions that identify the GTS, these including small amounts of black exterior trim and tinted rear lights.
The Cayman GTS will go on sale in summer 2020, with customer deliveries likely to begin before the end of the year.
