The AMG GT is powered by a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8 that makes 469 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque.
The GT is only available with a quick shifting seven-speed dual-clutch automatic.
Our test vehicle was fitted with black forged wheels, a $2200 option.
The GT starts at $116,895. Our richly optioned test model came to $131,315.
The GT's interior is snug but nicely appointed. Our seats were draped in Nappa leather for $1900 and heated and ventilated for an additional $450.
No carbon-ceramic brake discs here. The GT comes standard with 14.2-inch iron rotors on the front and rear axles.
The AMG GT accelerates from zero to 60 mph in a respectable 3.5 seconds.
The GT's rear fenders are 2.3 inches narrower than the higher-performing models. But its sheetmetal is so beautifully sculpted, the difference in width is likely to go unnoticed.
Our test car came fitted with optional adaptive dampers, those electronically controlled units supplant spool-valve dampers from supplier Multimatic.
