Cadillac's new-for-2020 sedan remedies some flaws of the previous CTS yet gives up on the driving excellence that had begun to define its cars.

Built on the same Alpha platform as the ATS and CTS, the CT5 is meant to be a direct competitor to the BMW 3-series, but it's actually more similar in size to the larger 5-series.
The CT5's styling takes inspiration from Cadillac's Escala concept. We think it looks sharp, but it's not all that different from the CTS it replaces.
The CT5's 350T model is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four that makes 237 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque.
The 350T badge is part of Cadillac's new engine naming scheme that, confusingly, refers to the engine's torque output in newton-meters.
Our test car was of the Sport trim level, which has a model-specific grille and fascias, along with a subtle body kit, rear spoiler, and Brembo brake hardware.
Luxury and Premium luxury trim levels also are available, as is a more performance-oriented CT5-V with a twin-turbocharged V-6 engine.
Several options, including a Driver Assist package and a Climate package, drove our car's as-tested price well beyond the $50,000 mark.
Inside, Cadillac has improved its CUE infotainment system, adding knobs and physical buttons rather than the previous touch-sensitive slider controls.
The CT5's rear seat also is more spacious than the CTS's thanks to a longer wheelbase than the CTS.
We still have qualms with the way the CT5's interior is assembled, as the mix of materials and textures doesn't create as premium of an environment as you'll find in several competitors.
