In prior generations, all-wheel-drive models wore a wider body that distinguished them from nearly all rear-wheel-drive 911s. New for the 992 generation, all 911s wear the same broad rear fenders regardless of how many wheels are driven.

Porsche charges $7300 to upgrade from the Carrera S to the Carrera 4S, which strikes us as a bit rich considering that the industry standard generally falls between $1000 and $2500 to add all-wheel drive.

Other than the addition of all-wheel drive, there are no major changes between a Carrera S and 4S, although the gas tank on the thirstier all-wheel-drive model is 0.7 gallon larger.

The new 911's cabin is wide and sparse. That makes the car feel larger than it is and a bit clinical.

The all-wheel-drive 4S weighs 139 pounds more than the last Carrera S we tested.

All-wheel drive helps the 911 get off the line even quicker than its fleet-footed rear-wheel-drive sibling. In our testing, the 911 Carrera 4S hit 60 mph in 2.8 seconds.
