The GLB is a new addition to the Mercedes lineup for 2020. It's built on the same platform as Mercedes' A- CLA- and GLA-class vehicles. The GLB is versatile, attractive, and can be outfitted with plenty of technology and luxurious interior appointments. Read the full story here.
The GLB shares a platform with Mercedes-Benz's compact cars. Its design is reminiscent of the larger GLS SUV.
The GLB comes standard with a 221-hp turbocharged four-cylinder engine. All-wheel drive is available.
GLBs equipped with all-wheel drive will also have access to several off-road specific tools in the infotainment system, in case the owners ever decide to take their car off the beaten path.
The GLB's interior is spacious and comfortable. Two large screens and a digital touchpad mounted in front of the center armrest make up the infotainment system.
Mercedes' infotainment system, dubbed MBUX, is designed to respond to certain verbal commands. Say "Mercedes, I'm cold" and the AI assistant should raise the temperature.
The GLB's infotainment system is controlled by a digital touchpad situated where you might find the gear shift in a non-Mercedes vehicle. The touchpad is easy to use, but we'd still prefer buttons.
Some of the buttons mounted on the GLB's steering wheel are touch-sensitive, so you can swipe them in addition to pressing down on them.
The GLB comes standard with 18-inch wheels. 19- and 20-inch wheels are available at extra cost.
Like many new cars, the GLB comes equipped with an engine stop-start system, which, when enabled, will shut off the engine at stop lights and when the car is parked, in an effort to save fuel.
The GLB comes standard with two rows and seating for five, but a third row with two extra seats is optional. We haven't tested the third row, but expect it to be cramped and best for occasional use.
