While the Australian-market version is not quite what we'll get in the U.S., the new subcompact Venue is pleasantly capable and ordinary, and that's okay.

The Venue's 1.6-liter four-cylinder isn't powerful. Expect it to make about 120 horsepower when it comes stateside. We drove only Australian versions for this review.
The Venue will come with either a six-speed manual transmission or a continuously variable automatic when it comes to the U.S. Australian versions come with either a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic.

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto will be standard on the Venue and will display on the 8.0-inch touchscreen atop its dash.
Instrumentation in the Venue is as simple as it comes: A speedometer and tachometer flank a digital display.
Parking sensors, forward-collision warning, a rearview camera, and lane keeping will be available—and likely standard—on the Venue.
Nothing is truly special about the Venue, but there are plenty of pragmatic touches for a crossover starting about $18K.
