For the 2020 model year, the Ford Mustang EcoBoost coupe and convertible are available with the High Performance package, which adds exclusive styling, a more exciting engine, and better handling characteristics.
The upgraded turbocharged 2.3-liter inline-four that comes with the High Performance package is inherited from the now-extinct Ford Focus RS hatchback. This enhanced turbo four makes 332 horsepower and sends 350 lb-ft of torque to the rear wheels through a standard six-speed manual or an optional 10-speed automatic transmission.
The High Performance package also cribs components from the V-8–powered Mustang GT. These include upgraded front brakes, a thicker rear anti-roll bar, an active exhaust system, a higher top speed of 155 mph, and more.
The EcoBoost's optional Handling package adds another layer of performance to the four-cylinder Mustang. It's only available on the coupe and brings even wider and stickier tires, adaptive dampers, a stiffer rear anti-roll bar, and more.
Models with the High Performance package can be identified by their black front splitter, blacked-out grille with an offset Mustang emblem, gray side mirrors, hood stripes, rear spoiler lip, quad exhaust, and trim-specific badges.
Inside, EcoBoost Mustangs with the High Performance package are outfitted with an aluminum instrument panel and serialized dashboard plaque. Cloth seats are standard, but power-adjustable leather buckets and heavily bolstered Recaro front seats are optional.
The High Performance package makes the four-cylinder Mustang more theatrical and engaging to drive. Its active exhaust provides a melodic soundtrack, and its broader powerband feels more linear.
Along with the High Performance kit, the Handling package helps transform the four-cylinder Mustang from fun to fantastic. Its enhanced chassis components deliver tenacious grip and high-fidelity steering but thankfully don't make it harder to drive every day.
The speed and smoothness of the EcoBoost Mustang's available 10-speed automatic transmission are impressive, but we'd have trouble passing up the standard six-speed manual.
The 2020 Ford Mustang EcoBoost coupe with the High Performance package starts at $32,760. The convertible pushes that price to $38,260, and the automatic transmission adds $1595 to either body style. The Handling pack individually costs $1995, but it's only available on the coupe and requires the $2000 Equipment Group 101A.
