BMW's latest 3-series hybrid receives meaningful upgrades to enhance its electric operation.

A turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four producing 181 horsepower and 221 lb-ft of torque is tasked as the prime motivator for the G20-generation 330e.
The 330e's electric motor-generator is more powerful than before, delivering 111 horsepower and 196 lb-ft of torque. Combined output of the powertrain is rated at 288 horses and 310 lb-ft.
The 2021 330e's new Xtraboost feature temporarily provides an additional 40 horsepower for up to 10 seconds.
Aside from the charge port door on the driver's side front fender, the 330e looks very much like a regular 3-series.
To allow more electric range, battery capacity has been increased from 7.6 to 12.0 kWh. The 330e should be able to travel about 20 miles on a charge.
To lower the center of gravity, the 330e's battery is mounted beneath the rear seat, which forced the relocation of the 3's fuel tank to over the rear axle.
The 330e's trunk volume is compromised by its relocated fuel tank, dropping to 13 cubic feet from the available 17 cubes in the regular 3-series sedan.
The plug-in hybrid 330e will be available with BMW's adaptive suspension and upgraded M Sport brakes.
The same driver-assistance features, including adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assist, found elsewhere in the 3-series lineup will be available on the plug-in 330e model.
The 2021 BMW 330e will be offered only in a rear-wheel-drive configuration.
