The Explorer ST comes standard with all-wheel drive and has beefed-up suspension components to sharpen handling.
An all-new platform sits underneath the new sixth-generation Explorer, and it has a longitudinally mounted engine and a rear-wheel-drive bias.
The only engine available on the ST is a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 engine that makes 400 hp and 415 lb-ft of torque.
Compared to the standard Explorer, the Explorer ST sets itself apart visually with a unique grille up front and red brake calipers.
The ST comes with 20-inch wheels as standard, and 21-inch wheels are optional. Summer performance tires are a $2500 option.
In the rear, there are quad exhaust tips to make it clear that this is the high-performance version.
The ST's cabin is set up just like the standard Explorer's, with a three-row seating setup that offers space for either six or seven passengers.
Special ST interior bits include an ST-badged steering wheel and different stitching for the seats.
A 10-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters is the only available gearbox.
Pricing for the ST starts at $55,835, and a few option packages are available that can push the price past $60,000.
