2019 Ford Ranger XL SuperCab in Photos
At less than $30,000, Ford's base Ranger is a solid, largely vice-free workhorse.
The 2019 Ford Ranger XL is the lowest-priced trim level of the Blue Oval's new mid-size pickup, positioned beneath the XLT and Lariat models. It starts at $25,495, near the bottom end of the class, even though it’s decently equipped and the newest in the segment. Read the full story here.
With the same 270-hp turbocharged four-cylinder engine as the rest of the Ranger lineup, yet with less equipment to weigh it down, the XL trim is quick.
Weighing some 500 pounds less than a pair of crew-cab, four-wheel-drive Rangers we’ve tested, our rear-drive extended-cab XL test truck reached 60 mph in a strong 6.0 seconds flat.
Extended-cab Rangers, dubbed SuperCabs by Ford, include a longer six-foot bed. Crew-cab models (SuperCrews) come with a shorter five-foot bed.
The XL’s available STX Appearance package helps dress up the bargain Ranger’s look with fog lights, gloss-black bumpers, and 17-inch aluminum wheels in place of the standard steel wheels.
The STX package also adds nifty stickers affixed to the sides of the cargo box.
On Ford’s extended-cab Rangers, the front and (short) rear doors open clamshell-style, providing a yawning aperture through which to load cargo or rear-seat passengers.
The rear seat on the SuperCab model is best avoided. There is very little legroom, the hard cushions are placed low to the floor, and the backrests are severely upright.
The Ranger presents a simple and businesslike interior. As in most of its competitors, the cabin materials are hard and uninspiring, and many of the various bits and switchgear look and feel as if they came from some of the oldest vehicles in Ford’s global vehicle lineup.
The SuperCab's rear seats may be a penalty box, but its front seats are comfortable. Our test vehicle's optional vinyl floor matting in place of the standard carpet lent it a basic feel.
The SuperCab's six-foot bed is large and suffers minimal intrusion from the rear wheel wells, which helps when loading larger objects.
