The Polestar 2 is the first fully electric car from Volvo's new performance brand, and its interior design makes it clear you're in a Volvo product with its minimalist aesthetic and natural materials.
The main feature of the Polestar 2's interior is the 11.0-inch central touchscreen, which marks the first production-car use of the new Android Automotive OS infotainment system.
The new OS was fully developed by Google, but automakers that adopt it will be able to re-skin it and come up with new apps and features as needed.
The main home screen consists of four "cards," which are customizable based on a few categories like navigation, phone, audio, and driving settings.
Google Maps is the sole navigation system, and it has EV-specific features like charging station locations and an estimation of the charge the car will have when it reaches the destination.
The car also integrates Google Assistant, which is an advanced voice-control system that recognizes and responds to all kinds of commands, from media functions to climate-control settings.
Google is opening the OS up to developers to create third-party media apps for things like music and podcasts, with additional types of third-party apps coming in the future.
All vehicle settings, including climate control and driver-assist systems, are accessed through the screen.
The only physical controls besides those on the steering wheel are a volume knob, buttons for the windshield and rear-window defrosters, and the shift lever.
The 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster has different displays depending on the app or feature that is currently being used.
