The Tesla Model Y is a new electric crossover arriving in 2020 that's based on the Model 3 sedan.
The Model Y is the newest electric offering from Tesla. Based on the Model 3 sedan, it's a taller crossover with a more spacious interior. It offers a bit less range and performance than the Model 3 but is otherwise mechanically similar. Tesla CEO Elon Musk claims that Model Y deliveries will begin in fall 2020. Offered in Standard Range, Long Range, Dual Motor AWD, and Performance forms, the Model Y's price ranges from $40,200 to $61,200.
Range estimates vary from 230 miles up to 300 miles, a bit less than the Model 3's range due to its larger size and worse aerodynamics.
It comes standard with a single electric motor providing rear-wheel drive. All-wheel drive capability, provided by a second front-mounted motor, is optional.
The top Model Y Performance claims a zero-to-60-mph time of 3.5 seconds.
Black is the only standard color, with other options, including red, blue, white, and gray, costing between $1500 and $2500 extra.
The interior is similar to the Model 3's, with a large 15.0-inch touchscreen dominating the dashboard and few other physical controls.
