The three-row Ascent SUV proved to be a satisfactory effort over 40,000 miles, but we think Subaru could make it even better.
The mid-size three-row crossover segment is fiercely competitive. After 40,000 miles with Subaru's new-for-2019 Ascent, we found it to be pleasant, capable, and a much better vehicle than the Tribeca model it replaced. But from its groaning CVT transmission to its mushy handling to its overzealous active-safety alerts, Subaru left plenty of room for improvement.
