The Sierra 1500 is still largely mechanically similar to the equally fresh 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500.
The top engine option in the 2019 Sierra 1500 remains General Motors' biggest version of its venerable small-block V-8, a 6.2-liter mill that makes 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque.
The GMC Sierra Denali can be had with a less powerful engine and rear-wheel drive, the big V-8 is only available with a 10-speed automatic transmission and selectable all-wheel drive.
Along with the more luxurious Denali model, the 6.2-liter engine can be fitted to the off-road-oriented AT4 model with its factory two-inch suspension lift and knobby all-terrain tires.
Weighing 5602 pounds, the Sierra 1500 Denali runs to 60 mph in a respectable 5.5 seconds.
Highlight features on the GMC Sierra that aren't available on the latest Chevy Silverado include adaptive dampers, the MultiPro tailgate, and a carbon-fiber cargo box.
The Sierra 1500 Denali's optional 22-inch wheels are heavy, but its standard adaptive dampers do a better job of managing the weight than a comparable Chevy Silverado's.
This Denali starts at $62,090, but it increases to $67,735 with optional extras.
The latest Sierra Denali's interior is a modest improvement over its predecessors', but it is not as luxurious in feel as some competitors', notably nicer versions of the new-for-2019 Ram 1500.
Choosing the 6.2-liter V-8 over the Denali's standard 5.3-liter V-8 results in a $2495 upcharge.
