The Maxima offers a more comprehensive suite of active-safety features, called Safety Shield 360, which brings blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, front and rear automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, and automatic high-beams as standard equipment.

Adaptive cruise control and traffic-sign recognition are optional and now available on lesser trims, while a driver-attention monitor becomes standard for all.

Inside, Nissan upgraded the upholstery and dash materials—particularly on the SR model, which features diamond-quilted seats, orange stitching, and orange microsuede.

The Platinum Reserve borrows the semi-aniline leather from the GT-R Premium and adds bronze-colored trim and a two-tone steering wheel.

A revised rear bumper includes four integrated tailpipe openings, and on SR models, a spoiler sits atop the trunk lid.

There are no significant mechanical changes for the 2019 Maxima, which continues to offer a 3.5-liter V-6 engine with 300 horsepower and a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) as its sole powertrain option.

The Maxima's V-6 will set it apart from the Altima, which has transitioned to a turbocharged four-cylinder as its upgrade engine. The 2019 Maxima goes on sale in mid-December.
