Pickup trucks and SUVs continue to top the sales charts in the United States, while a few affordable sedans hang onto the remaining spots.
2025 has come to a close, and the bestselling new car list continues to be dominated by pickup trucks and SUVs, with a few sedans still clinging on to a top spot. We've pored over the data and rounded up the 25 bestselling new cars sold in the United States in 2025. For other 2025 sales insights, check out our roundup of sales winners and losers.
Ford Maverick: 155,051 units sold
Ford's littlest truck surged in 2025, with sales climbing 18 percent.
Ford Transit: 156,611 units sold
The Ford Transit, a commercial van, snuck its way onto this list, with sales up 12 percent in 2025. This total does not include the electric E-Transit, which saw a 59 percent decline versus 2024.
Subaru Outback: 157,716 units sold
Outback sales dropped by 7 percent in 2025, as Subaru geared up to introduce the new seventh-generation model.
Jeep Wrangler: 167,322 units sold
The Wrangler had a strong 2025, with sales improving by 11 percent.
Tesla Model 3: 172,800 units sold (estimated)
Sales of the Model 3 were up in 2025 by 18 percent year-over-year, after a down year in 2024 when Tesla transitioned to the refreshed model. (Tesla doesn't report sales numbers in the same way other automakers do, which is why we have to rely on estimates from Automotive News.)
Subaru Forester: 175,070 units sold
Kia Sportage: 182,823 units sold
Kia continued to be led by the Sportage, which underwent a refresh and saw its sales rise 13 percent.
Subaru Crosstrek: 191,724 units sold
Subaru's bestselling model saw a 6 percent increase in sales compared to 2024, and it nearly reached 200,000 units.
Chevy Trax: 206,339 units sold
The Trax was 13th overall through the first three quarters, but a brutal Q4, which was 28 percent worse than the same period the year before, saw the little Chevy fall down this list. Overall, the Trax emerged from 2025 with 3 percent more sales than in 2024.
Jeep Grand Cherokee: 210,082 units sold
The Grand Cherokee had a down year, with sales sliding by 3 percent compared to 2024.
Nissan Rogue: 217,896 units sold
Nissan's bestselling model fell from ninth overall in 2024 to 15th in 2025, as its yearly sales dropped 11 percent.
Ford Explorer: 222,706 units sold
A refresh helped the Explorer achieve a strong year, moving up two spots on this list versus 2024 as sales climbed 15 percent.
Hyundai Tucson: 234,230 units sold
The Tucson helped lead Hyundai to a record sales year, up 14 percent.
Honda Civic: 238,661 units sold
After a hotly contested battle, the Civic lost out to its Toyota rival in 2025, as sales dipped by 1 percent. The Civic Hybrid had a stellar year, however, with 86,407 units sold, up 294 percent.
Toyota Corolla: 248,088 units sold
Despite its age, the Corolla experienced a 7 percent increase in sales in 2025. The Corolla Hybrid registered 50,245 units, essentially even with its 2024 sales.
Chevy Equinox: 274,356 units sold
The Equinox had a fantastic year, with sales climbing 32 percent following the introduction of the fourth-generation model. The Equinox EV, which moved 57,945 units, is not included here.
Toyota Tacoma: 274,638 units sold
Tacoma sales surged in 2025, up 42 percent compared with 2024. The Tacoma Hybrid accounted for just 30,493 units of the overall total.
Toyota Camry: 316,185 units sold
The Camry posted a slight 2 percent increase in sales as Toyota transitioned America's most popular sedan to the new, hybrid-only model.
Tesla Model Y: 317,800 units sold (estimated)
Tesla's bestseller had a down year, with sales dropping 22 percent from 406,200 units in 2024. Part of the Model Y's decline could be a factor of the changeover to the refreshed 2026 model. (Tesla doesn't report sales numbers in the same way other automakers do, which is why we have to rely on estimates from Automotive News.)
GMC Sierra: 348,222 units sold
Sales of the Sierra rose 8 percent compared to 2024. This figure does not count the Sierra EV, which reached 7996 sales, up a whopping 347 percent.
