28 New Cars and Trucks That Are Easier to Find Now Than in 2021

The BMW 2-series lineup encompasses the two-door coupe (just redesigned) and the four-door Gran Coupe. The former is rear- or all-wheel drive, while the Gran Coupe is front-/all-wheel drive. What you won't find on dealer lots is a 2022 2-series convertible—that body style has been dropped along with the manual transmission.

The BMW 4-series is the swanky, more stylish—and, currently, more available—counterpart to the 3-series sedan. It's offered as a two-door coupe, a convertible, and a four-door Gran Coupe. We like the six-cylinder M440i over the base 430i, although it commands a hefty price premium. Or go hog wild with the M4—there, we like the base version for its stick shift and rear-wheel drive.

Supplies of the BMW 8-series have increased, likely because the cars skipped the 2021 model year. BMW's range-topping 8-series coupe/convertible/Gran Coupe can be had as the six-cylinder 840i or the V-8 M850i. The fire-breathing M8 comes exclusively in Competition form, meaning it has 617 horsepower, enough for a 2.5-second zero-to-60-mph time. There's also an Alpina B8 Gran Coupe that's the most expensive of all, at just over $140,000.

Increased inventory for the Cadillac Escalade is good news for rappers and celebrities—and for GM's bottom line. Caddy's high-fashion high roller comes in the massive standard size and the even bigger ESV. Pricing can easily run into the six figures, and for that kind of dough, be sure to get the Super Cruise automated highway driving feature.

The Cadillac XT6 is vastly more wieldy and maneuverable than the gargantuan Escalade, but it still manages to squeeze in three rows of seats. Luggage space, however, is severely limited with all seats in use.

A greater supply of Chevrolet Corvettes isn't just good for GM, it's good for the American psyche. The latest, C8, generation of Chevy's sports car is a star-spangled mid-engine beast that feels like a national achievement. That's even more true for the Z06 (pictured), although that version won't arrive until this summer.

The heavy-duty versions of the Chevrolet Silverado pickup are big trucks that make big money for GM, so it's not surprising the company has prioritized their production. Our data indicate that inventory of both the 2500 and 3500 models has increased.

Somewhat overshadowed by the limelight cast on the new Ford Bronco is the smaller Bronco Sport. The Bronco Sport is based on the Escape but has much more rugged styling and enhanced off-road ability. Try to find a Badlands model, which is the only one that gets the turbocharged 2.0-liter four; lesser versions make do with a three-cylinder turbo.

If GM was going to prioritize production of its heavy-duty pickups, naturally that is going to benefit the GMC Sierra HD as well as the Chevy Silverado. Unfortunately, however, neither of the heavy-duty pickups has received the interior upgrades bestowed upon the 1500 version this year.

Directing scarce resources such as computer chips to big utes like the GMC Yukon and Yukon XL is smart business. The Yukon lineup is relatively simple, with the entry-level SLE, the better-equipped SLT, the off-road specialist XT4, and the bling king Denali. All four are offered in regular and XL forms.

Hyundai's Elantra is a striking-looking compact sedan with an expansive lineup. The standard engine is a little sleepy, but the N-Line is spunkier, and the hybrid is highly economical. A new Elantra N is truly sporty and easily our favorite.

Families seeking a competent and pleasant three-row SUV will want to check out the Hyundai Palisade, especially now that stock is increasing. The all-around-excellent Palisade is closely related to the Kia Telluride, and the good news is that we're seeing an increasing supply of that model, too.

If the Hyundai Palisade is a bit too much SUV for your needs, check out the slightly smaller Hyundai Santa Fe. Whereas the Palisade has three rows of seats, the Santa Fe is strictly a two-row offering, although it's otherwise similar in size and offers many of the same features.

Black Book data indicate that dealers have a few more Kia Rios on hand than at this time last year. If you're in the market for an extremely inexpensive new car, the Rio is worth checking out. Prices start at just $17,275—but make sure not to pay any "market adjustment" dealer markups.

Not all versions of the Lexus RX are seeing improved availability, but some are. The standard RX350 is more scarce than it was last year. But other versions—the RX450h hybrid and the three-row, long-wheelbase models, the RX350L and RX450hL—should be easier to find.

All three Maserati models are seeing better availability than at this time last year. That may be indicative of the tough segments in which they compete. The Maserati Ghibli, for example, squares off against the Mercedes-Benz E-class and BMW 5-series among others. For 2022, the Ghibli offers a simplified three-tier lineup: GT, Modena, and Trofeo. Prices start at a rich $77,695 and climb to $115,795—another reason dealers may have some on hand.

Most luxury SUVs are still in short supply, but there are twice as many Maserati Levantes on hand as there were a year ago. The Levante isn't among our highest-ranked SUVs, lacking the polish of some competitors and suffering from nosebleed pricing, but its scintillating powertrains and exclusivity will appeal to some.
