All the Off-Road Goodies on the 2022 Ford Bronco Raptor
The new Raptor version of the popular SUV has standard 37-inch all-terrain tires, and it's nearly 10 inches wider than a standard Bronco.
Like the Ford F-150 pickup, the new Bronco now has a high-performance Raptor model designed for going full send. It comes standard with 37-inch tires, which is only an option on the F-150 Raptor, a more powerful twin-turbocharged engine putting out around 400 horsepower, and other go-fast-off-road equipment that make it almost as wide as the F-150 Raptor. This is all the gear you get when upgrading to the Bronco Raptor, which current Bronco reservation holders can do now.
Fox Live Valve Dampers
The Bronco Raptor uses position-sensitive dampers from Fox that are similar to those equipped on the F-150 Raptor. Ford calls the Bronco Raptor's setup HOSS 4.0 (High-Performance Off-Road Stability Suspension), and it includes 3.1-inch-diameter internal bypass dampers with remote reservoirs in the rear. It's also equipped with Ford Performance front and rear control arms, which allow for 60 percent front and 40 percent more wheel travel than a base Bronco, and larger tie rods.
37-Inch Tires
Wheel travel needed to be increased to make room for the standard 37-inch BFGoodrich K02 all-terrain tires. They’re mounted on a set of standard 17-inch wheels, though two different styles of 17-inch beadlock-capable wheels are also available. The tires are so heavy that Ford needed to reinforce the rear spare-tire carrier.
Stronger Axles, Wider Stance
Ford says the Bronco Raptor's track is 8.6 inches wider than the base Bronco's. That's in part because of the upgraded heavy-duty Dana 50 solid rear axle and Dana 44 front axles with upgraded half-shafts.
Upgraded Transfer Case
The Bronco Raptor's transfer case has a higher-capacity clutch and a 67.9:1 crawl ratio, roughly the same as the Sasquatch's 67:8.1 ratio. It also gets front and rear locking differentials and a hydraulic disconnecting front anti-roll bar.
Riding High
Skid plates protect the driveline, transmission, and transfer case, and there are Raptor-specific rock rails. Raptors have 13.1 inches of ground clearance, 1.6 more than a Bronco Sasquatch.
Raptor Front End
Up front there are a Ford Performance steel front bumper with integrated tow hooks, removable bumper end caps, and Rigid LED fog lamps.
More G.O.A.T. Modes
Ford added Baja and Tow/Haul to the Bronco’s G.O.A.T. (Goes Over Any Type of Terrain) modes. Baja not only opens up the exhaust, but also provides an anti-lag calibration for the twin-turbo V-6 that keeps the turbos spinning, so that boost is available when you get back on it. Bronco Raptors also come standard with Trail Control and one-pedal driving, off-road cruise control, and Trail Turn Assist, which uses torque vectoring to tighten the turn radius.
