The man who reshaped Hyundai and Genesis design has stepped down. We look back at some of his best designs for Hyundai plus Lamborghini, Audi, and Bentley.
During his almost 30-year-long career, Luc Donckerwolke has put a number of groundbreaking and fascinating models on the road. Here are some of our favorites.
Donckerwolke's Design Sketch, Audi AI 2
A set of two Audi Al2 concepts were built on an aluminum space frame. This little crossover led to the ultra-efficient A2 series production car.
Audi RS4 Avant

The Genesis Essentia is still under review for a production run; it highlights some of the brand's future design themes. Power will come from batteries or a fuel cell.
Genesis G80
Sporty, low, and elegant, the new Genesis G80 has ignited enthusiasm in the designer community and among customers. The dual light strips are characteristic of this car. More powerful versions are possible.
Hyundai 45 Concept
In homage to Giugiaro's original Hyundai Pony, the Hyundai 45 concept could see production in low volume, as an electric.
Hyundai Le Fil Rouge Concept
This 2018 Geneva auto show concept, a.k.a. the HDC-1, was said to be inspired by the 1974 HDC-1, which was Hyundai's first concept car. It also debuted a new design language for the brand known as Sensuous Sportiness.
Hyundai Prophecy Concept
No one expected the sensual, retro-futuristic Hyundai Prophecy concept. The fully electric concept would have taken this year's Geneva auto show by storm. It is headed for production.

Elegant and upscale, with a futuristic lighting architecture, the new Hyundai Sonata transcends its segment. Its chief markets are North America and Korea.
Lamborghini Murciélago
The pre-facelift Murciélago is one of the most purist supercar designs of all time. The angularity of Lamborghini is there, plus the simplicity that is sorely missing today.
