The 10 Craziest, Most Powerful Hypercars Arriving in 2019 and 2020

The roadgoing result of Benz world's F1 know-how, the Mercedes-AMG One will employ an ostensibly humble 1.6-liter turbocharged V-6 hybrid powertrain—generating upward of 1000 horsepower. Billed as a "hyper-GT," the streamlined Speedtail revives the 1+2-seat cockpit (that's three across seating) from the McLaren F1, with a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8 hybrid powertrain producing 1036 horsepower. If anything will challenge the Mercedes-AMG One also on this list, it'll be the Aston Martin Valkyrie. Jointly developed with Red Bull Racing, the Valkyrie will be the first in a series of new mid-engine exotics from the British marque. The Valkyrie's 6.5-liter V-12 is naturally aspirated—no turbos or superchargers!—but electrically assisted to the tune of 1160 horsepower, delivering as-yet-untold (but assuredly stratospheric) levels of performance.

Dress a Chiron in a tailored track suit, hunker everything down, and—presto!—you get the Bugatti Divo. Its 8.0-liter quad-turbo W-16 kicks out the same 1479 horsepower as it does when installed in the Chiron, but with more downforce, stiffer suspension, and less weight, the Divo is designed to deliver quicker lap times and more agility. This refocus comes at the expense of the Chiron's headline-grabbing top speed, which drops from 261 mph to "only" 236 in the Divo.

Named for Christian von Koenigsegg's father, the Koenigsegg Jesko leverages two decades of Swedish hypercar development. Its 5.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 sends 1281 horsepower (and that's on regular gas—the engine makes 1603 on an E85 bioethanol mix) through an innovative nine-speed multiclutch transmission. The Jesko will surely shatter the 278-mph record achieved by the company's Agera RS. Plus, its elaborately hinged doors do "\ /" when opened with the best of the exotic class.

With the Lotus Exige–based Venom GT, Hennessey showed that America could build a hypercar, even if it wasn't as well-rounded as many European thoroughbreds. Now Hennessey is opening another chapter with the fresher Venom F5, and it's gunning for a 300-plus-mph top speed. Along the way, the Venom F5 is said to hit 60 mph in under two seconds, thanks to a 7.6-liter twin-turbo V-8 producing more than 1600 horsepower.

Racing Hennessey to the triple-century mark is fellow American entry SSC, succeeding the record-setting Ultimate Aero with the far more stylish Tuatara. (The Ultimate Aero briefly held the Guinness World Record for top speed—it lost the title to Bugatti's Veyron Super Sport in 2010.) Under development since 2011, the first of 100 Tuataras will be delivered in August, boasting a 5.9-liter twin-turbo V-8 engine producing 1350 hp on 91-octane or 1750 horsepower on E85.

No longer content with designing cars for other automakers, Pininfarina is going its own way with a line of electric vehicles, of which the Battista (named for the company's founder) will be the first. Four electric motors combine forces to generate 1877 total horsepower and are projected to punt the Battista from zero to 62 mph in less than two seconds. The Battista's top speed exceeds 217 mph.

Having made its name with the Concept_One, Croatian electric-hypercar startup Rimac is back again with the C_Two. The car's specifications are nearly identical to the Battista's (which Rimac is helping to develop), but Rimac projects the C_Two will be quicker: Zero to 62 mph is said to take just 1.85 seconds, with a top speed projected at 256 mph.
