- The Bugatti Mistral "La Perle Rare" is a one-off created by Bugatti's Sur Mesure customization division.
- The paint job features a white base beneath gold flowing lines, like a fancy piece of white chocolate with caramel drizzled on top.
- The theme continues inside, and the "La Perle Rare" is written in a beautiful script on the center tunnel, engine cover, and rear wing.
Ever since Bugatti launched its Sur Mesure division in 2021, we've been treated to a variety of extra-special supercars. Bugatti says the goal of the "La Perle Rare" was to "enrich [the Mistral's] character with a sculptural, flowing aesthetic," and the organic, curving lines painted onto the bodywork echo past Bugatti masterpieces such as the Veyron Grand Sport L’Or Blanc. The mix of white and gold lines required a painstaking process of hand-applied taping and masking, and Bugatti continued the gold-and-white theme on the diamond-cut alloy wheels thanks to a special paint mixture.
The cabin is dominated by white upholstery, and the door panels feature the same flowing mix of gold and white lines to create a liquified effect. Bugatti also fitted warm ambient lighting to further enhance the look, accented by machined and polished aluminum trim.
As per usual with Bugatti, there are plenty of eye-catching details. Stitched into the seat backs is the iconic "Dancing Elephant" image, originally sculpted by Ettore Bugatti's younger brother Rembrandt and first used as the hood ornament for the opulent Type 41 Royale.
The trumpeting elephant is also emblazoned on the bottom front edge of the doors, and it appears once again suspended in a small clear space inside the gear selector, a detail seen on other Mistrals but one that is always marvelous to behold. "La Perle Rare" also appears in a stylish script atop each bank of the engine cover, along the underside of the active rear wing, and stitched into the center tunnel.
The powertrain is unchanged, but that's no bad thing, with the Mistral packing a quad-turbocharged 8.0-liter W-16, the last Bugatti to feature that famed engine. Power output is a dizzying 1578 horsepower, and the top speed is at least 260 mph.
The "La Perle Rare" is one of 99 Mistrals, and while Bugatti didn't publish a price for this one-off, we are sure it costs a considerable amount more than the $5 million price tag that was announced when the Mistral was first revealed.
