- Audi and Mattel have teamed up to create scale versions of the legendary Audi RS2 Avant and R8 LMS GT3 car.
- Both sets are a part of Mattel's Brick Shop line, Hot Wheels' equivalent to Lego, meaning that you'll have to build them yourself.
- The 1:32-scale RS2 Avant will fetch $19.99, and the 1:16-scale R8 LMS will cost $49.99 when they hit shelves later this fall; both are now available to pre-order.
It's impossible to have a conversation about the best cars to come out of Bavaria without mentioning Audi once or twice. From legendary street cars to dominant race cars in nearly every discipline of motorsports, the four-ring brand has offered up some absolute icons. The RS2 Avant and R8 LMS are two prime examples. While most of us will never own a limited-production turbo five-cylinder wagon or a four-time Nürburgring 24 Hour winner, Audi and Mattel have teamed up to give the masses buildable models of both.

Each model comes as a part of Hot Wheels' parent company Mattel's Brick Shop product range, which is similar to Lego's line of brick-by-brick-built vehicles. Unlike a box-ready Hot Wheels, there's some assembly required before they're ready to enter the 24 Hours of Hardwood Floor.
While Mattel doesn’t list the piece count for either, the RS2 Avant is the smaller (and likely easier to build) of the pair as a 1:32-scale model. For being so small, the Brick Shop RS2 doesn’t lose much fidelity compared with the real thing. The model comes in a rich blue color—similar to the real car's signature Nogaro Blue hue—and rides on tiny Porsche Cup wheels wrapped in officially licensed Toyo Proxes R888R rubber. Other details include a removable greenhouse that grants access to the interior, several sticker decals, four opening doors, and hinged front and rear windshields.

The other model is based on the second-generation Audi R8 LMS and is twice the size of the RS2 at 1:16 scale. With its bigger form factor, Mattel was able to cram more detail into the R8 model, which features a functional steering wheel, opening doors, and a functional engine hatch that lifts to expose a blocky replica of the real race car's 5.2-liter V-10. It also features changeable aero components and wears the iconic yellow and white livery made famous by the Group B Quattro S1 and the #39 R8 LMS Nürburgring 24 Hour entry from 2023.
Both models are currently available for pre-sale at Target, Walmart, Amazon, and the Mattel website, but they won't officially hit shelves until later this fall. The RS2 Avant will sell for $19.99, and the R8 LMS will retail for $49.99.
