On Tuesday, we presented this week’s shifter and asked you to identify the make and model of the vehicle whence it came. We had hoped the shifter’s foreign origin would add an extra challenge, but it didn’t get in Dawn P.’s way. Dawn wins a Save the Manuals button and sticker for correctly identifying the stick as the 1997 Ford Puma’s five-speed.
The Puma pictured here is from Ford’s press materials, which we dug out of our archives. Ford never sold the Puma on U.S. soil, but it did sell the peppy-looking little coupe in Europe. It was powered by a 123-hp, 1.7-liter Zetec four-cylinder, and Ford boasted that the Puma’s “nimble chassis” was aided by its “exceptionally large” 15-inch wheels and tires. The definition of sporty certainly has moved quite a bit since.Name That Shifter, No. 134: 1997 Ford Puma
