2009 Honda Accord EX-Lpinterest

Honda is recalling 303,904 Accord sedans and coupes in the U.S. for side-curtain airbags that can accidentally deploy, the company said late Thursday.

Similar to two Fiat-Chrysler side-curtain airbag recalls over the summer that involved 951,000 Charger and Ram models, the 2008–2009 Accord may deploy the side-curtain airbags if the doors are slammed or if the vehicle runs over a large bump. Honda said it knows of at least 19 injuries, with the number of deployments presumably higher. Detailed filings were not yet posted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Honda did not confirm whether the airbags were from Bosch, the same supplier that manufactured the side-curtain airbag controller as Fiat-Chrysler, but it did say it had provided the supplier incorrect thresholds that were too sensitive, as also happened at Fiat-Chrysler.

Dealers will update the software starting in mid-December to “adjust the deployment threshold.” The airbags won’t actually need to be replaced, and the defect is not related to the Takata airbag-inflator recalls.
