Pickups are essentially the official vehicle of the Lone Star State, and manufacturers aren’t shy about offering special editions that make it easy for buyers to stand out from the herd. The latest to bust out of the Ram corral is the 2017 Lone Star Silver Edition, a Texas-only rig that made its debut at the 2016 State Fair of Texas.

Built on the successful Ram 1500 Lone Star, currently the brand’s best-selling truck in Texas, the Silver Edition is essentially a cosmetic treatment that includes a new grille with a blindingly bright chrome surround and mesh inserts. Additional brightwork includes a set of 20-inch polished wheels and front tow hooks, chrome exterior side-view mirrors, chrome wheel-to-wheel side steps, and bright beltline body cladding. A milled aluminum Lone Star badge on the grille announces the package with all the subtlety of a cowboy’s belt buckle. It also signifies the truck is a member in good standing of the newly announced Ram Care service program, included with the purchase of Lone Star Silver Edition. (We’ll have more details on the Ram Care program as they become available.)   Inside, Lone Star Silver Editions get new cloth and vinyl high-back bucket seats upholstered in either Canyon Brown with Light Frost Beige accents or in Black with Diesel Gray highlights.

Available on Ram 1500 Crew Cab long- and short-bed trucks with either two- or four-wheel drive, the Silver Edition offers the 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 making 305 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque, the 5.7-liter Hemi V-8 with 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft, and the 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V-6 with its 240 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque.

The upcharge for the bling that the Lone Star Silver package brings is a cool $900, which puts the base price on the least expensive Lone Star Silver Edition at $40,315. Look for 2017 Ram 1500 trucks with the Lone Star Silver Edition package to start arriving in Texas dealerships during the fourth quarter of 2016.
