The VW New Beetle is faithful to the style of the original--at least in character. So when we heard VW would introduce a new Microbus, we expected the same sort of treatment. And, true enough, the new design study has the same loaf-of-bread proportions. But—well, it's not exactly retro. It's also considerably larger than the original Microbus. It's the size of the current EuroVan. And, of course, the new version has its engine in the front; not the rear. Volkswagen says that they didn't want to just copy the old bus style. But instead, create a new VW original. But we can't help but like the round headlights of the original more than the new version. Inside, the new Microbus has three rows of seats and a full entertainment center. VW is riding a waive of success lately, and don't be surprised if they try to break into the van market in the next couple of years with something resembling this concept.
