What would a Honda Insight look like if it had four doors? We don't know, and neither do you. But we do know what you get when you apply the Insight's hybrid technology—an electric booster motor sandwiched between a small (in this case a 1.3-liter four) gasoline engine and the transmission. You get a combined EPA fuel-economy rating of 59 mpg. We know this because Honda told us. If that rating plays out, the Civic Hybrid will probably nudge the Toyota Prius from the No. 3 spot on the 2002 EPA mpg list, right behind the Insight manual (61/68) and the Insight CVT automatic (57/56). And speaking of the Prius, Honda plans to target the Toyota hybrid with its Civic Hybrid pricing when it hits showrooms in March. That would mean about $20,000.
