Another intriguing Toyota offering is the POD, a joint effort between Toyota and Sony (although the shape suggests Sunbeam, or some other maker of toasters). Its exterior design notwithstanding, the POD's showcase element is Sony's new DSRC (Dedicated Short Range Communication) system that will allow drivers to communicate directly with others around them. Wonder what they'll say. Another system capability is detection of objects beyond visual range, followed by a warning to the driver.
