2017 Lincoln MKT
- Powerful turbo V-6, smooth and quiet ride, room for up to seven onboard.
- Cozy third row is best left for kids, mediocre fuel economy, cabin design is falling behind the competition.
- The MKT gets down the road with a minimum of fuss and comes with plenty of standard features, but awkward styling and a dated interior don’t do it any favors.

Overview
The 2017 Lincoln MKT is a three-row SUV that delivers a quiet ride, a roomy cabin, and an extensive lineup of standard features. While its ride and handling are biased far more towards comfort than sportiness, that’s perfectly attuned to what car shoppers are going to be looking for in a large Lincoln sport-utility. When equipped with the optional twin-turbo V-6, the MKT is downright speedy and has no trouble merging onto highways or zipping down the road when a traffic light turns green. Perhaps the MKT’s biggest demerits are its polarizing design and outdated interior.
What's New for 2017?
The Lincoln MKT enters the 2017 model year with no notable changes. This SUV first appeared in 2010 and has received only small updates since that time, such as last year’s transition to the Ford Sync 3 infotainment system.

Engine, Transmission, and Performance
A 303-hp 3.7-liter V-6 paired to a six-speed automatic transmission serves as the standard powertrain in the 2017 MKT. While this provides reasonable levels of pep, the available twin-turbo 365-hp 3.5-liter V-6 offers stronger acceleration, thanks in large part to its substantial 350 pound-feet of torque that’s delivered from as low as 1500 rpm. This gives the MKT a sizable kick in the pants whenever you punch the gas from a standstill. It’s worth noting that the standard V-6 can be had in front- or all-wheel drive format, whereas the turbocharged variant comes standard with all-wheel drive. As you’d expect from a Lincoln SUV, the MKT cruises down the road silently, and the supple suspension settings help take the edge off rough pavement and nasty potholes.

Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
Unfortunately, the cabin of the MKT is beginning to show its age, both in terms of layout and some of the materials used throughout the interior. Many rivals simply look and feel more luxurious inside. To the MKT’s credit, comfort levels are high, and space in the first and second rows is ample. Room in the third row is okay for kids, though adults will feel claustrophobic back there if the ride is anything but a short jaunt. Lincoln loads even the base MKT with features like leather seating surfaces, tri-zone climate control, a panoramic roof, heated and ventilated front seats, and a power-operated liftgate. When it comes to cargo capacity, the MKT has 17.9 cubic feet of space behind the third row. With these seats folded, space expands to nearly 40 cubic feet of trunk volume. That’s a solidly average amount of room for this size of SUV.
Infotainment and Connectivity
Every MKT is equipped with the Ford Sync 3 infotainment system that’s controlled by an 8.0-inch touchscreen. Standard features include Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, voice commands, and two USB ports. Available tech upgrades consist of a THX II audio system, navigation, and a dual-screen DVD rear entertainment system.
