Overview

The nicely packaged Freestyle became the Taurus X for 2008 and received a bolder front-end sheetmetal, an available power liftgate, and one-touch folding second-row seats. It also received a 263-hp V-6 engine mated to a six-speed automatic in place of the Freestyle’s previous, anemic 203-hp engine and CVT. It offers decent performance, a smooth ride, excellent interior packaging, and good fuel economy for a people hauler. It drives more like a minivan or an SUV than a car and is a fine cruiser, but the steering is overly light.
