Overview

Once a household name, the Ford Taurus is now destined for the great scrap-heap in the sky as 2019 will be its last year on sale. In fact, Taurus production officially ground to a halt in March 2019, so whatever Taurus inventory exists at your local Ford dealer is the last of the breed.

Engines, Ride, and Handling

The majority of Taurus models are powered by a 3.5-liter V-6 engine that makes 288 horsepower and drives either the front or all four wheels through a six-speed automatic transmission. This arrangement has been around since 2010, although the engine made just 263 horsepower back then. A 2013 model making 288 ponies moseyed to 60 mph in 7.0 seconds at our test track; while its ride is comfortable, the suspension fails to provide thrills. A high-performance SHO model is optional and comes with a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V-6 that makes 365 horsepower; in our testing, it proved to be much quicker and snapped off a 5.2-second zero-to-60-mph time and delivered extra driving verve.

Interior and Technology

Passenger space inside the Taurus isn't as generous as its extra-large body suggests, but four adults can find comfortable positions for long trips. As the Taurus aged, Ford made few upgrades to the interior so don't expect the most modern infotainment or luxury features. The trunk has plenty of room for luggage; the Taurus Limited and SHO models can be had with adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and a self-parking feature.
